I've been busy over the winter
1) Doohickey (it's a KLR thing...don't ask)
2) 1" Raising links. Now that I have a proper bike stand, I might attempt to do the 1.5" raising links. It was too dangerous to be working under my bike while trying to reef these on, so I settled on the 1" for now, which went on with little trouble.
3) New footpegs. I replaced the stock KLR rubber death pegs with a set of off-road pegs I had made up. New Honda pins and springs from a CR50 worked quite nicely with them.
4) Moose skid plate. I wondered why the one for the KLR was @ $100 while I've seen ones for YZ's etc. @ $50. I just picked it up today and instealled it. This thing is huge...very ATV-like.
I need to replace my front & rear tires, currently running a stock front and a Kend K270 on the rear. I was thinking TKC-80's ? [/list] |

Relocated the CDI box to under the seat so it cannot be smashed, altered the carb so the float cannot stick anywhere, mounted a switch 12vDC fan on one side of the rad for so hot days of single track running. _________________ When In Doubt Whip It Out |

Did the doohickey too.. Put on some moose handguards, still want to add a moose skid plate, shifter and pegs.. I put on a set of dunlop 606's before I put her away last fall. Awesome tires..... They help at keeping that pig upright in the dirt pretty well....

rebuilt the carb twice, changed the needle slide by one position (leaner) and replaced the main jet down, went from stock to the next size down (cant remember the sizes exactly but the next one down was 5 somethings smaller) mm i think, i will have to look in the manual. Bike is an excessive oil burner. I'm hoping I have it dialed in now and that my throttle response is smooth all the way from 1/8 to full. I was experiencing some major hiccup response in the mid range. wide open, balls out, no problem, 1/8, real smooth........up thru the mid range was a bucking bronco.
am in the process of replacing the seal in the rear shock arrangement because it appears to leaking hydrolic oil? I will attempt this by removing the shock and then tearing it apart. If that is not good i will try to do it on the bike. Compressing it doesn't sound like fun tho. |

Lets see,
1) changed the fork oil to synthetic
2) Did the t-mod
3) added a 12v accessory outlet for a garmin 60cx
4) changed the horn to one people can hear
5) changed to a stainless front brake line
6) changed the front tire from a K270 to a Pirelli scorpion ST, also put a heavy duty tube in
7) topped up the battery which was suprisingly low mostly in the middle cells, the outside looked fine
8) changed the shifter lever to a heavy duty one
9) In the middle of cutting up and painting some mermite boxes for hard bags
Still have to do
1) The Doohickey
2) Flush the coolent and replace
3) grease the rear swingarm linkage
4) change the front brake pads for Dunlops
5) figure out a way of mounting the mermites, so far I've got four hockey pucks and some steel plate, hmmm |
