Guys, Wayne Ricketts the President of SCORRA, the new club set up for Simcoe County has extended an invitation to all of us to come down for this ride. This ride is put together by HORRA, but is in SCORRA territory in Midhurst, near Barrie/Orillia.
I'm considering going down myself and was wondering if there was any interest from others to head down ? I'd like to trailer down the night before i.e. Saturday, stay over in Barrie (I might be able to get up to two cheap hotel rooms, i.e. at @ $60 for the night) and return on Sunday evening after the ride.
It'll be a good opportunity for us to see how one of these rides is put together and it's not too far away.
Details, entry forms, etc are available at http://www.horra.ca/ |

Rats, guys! I can't make it, as I just found out I got Stanley Cup Finals tix for the family in Ottawa for that weekend.
If you were thinking of going to this ride, I'd still encourage you to go...apparently it is one of the best ones of the season.
Oh...something I also found out. The 120 km+ route requires a blue plate.
For green plate riders, there is a shorter route, something like 35 km.
Also, they are very strict on plating and insurance at registration, i.e. they will turn you away if you don't have either. |

Jim Kelly Memorial Ride
2:11 am (5 hours ago)
Just a reminder to all SCORRA members, family and friends the Jim Kelly Memorial ride this Sunday 3rd , as per attachment. Please inform by fax or phone your intent to ride so they can estimate for lunches. This is an awesome event both road or family and I encourage everyone to participate, hoping that in the future SCORRA will host something similar with the help of HORRA.
Tim Middlehurst president of HORRA confirmed today that for the Junior ride, which will be guided by SCORRA, all bikes must be green plated inorder for us to enter in the Simcoe Forest. We were not successful in obtaining the use of RJ’s scramble track, hoping that if any juniors that were non plated could be entertained over on the scrambles. The juniors will be insured by the special event policy with CMA over in the Simcoe Forest but they must be at least green plated and accompanied by a parent-guardian.
Tim informed me that HORRA has agreed inorder to promote and encourage affordable family rides they are only requesting $20.00 per person whether it is a parent or junior on the green plated ride. This still helps cover the expenses and provides a charitable donation. All riders must be CMA members, and if they are not, this can be obtained at sign in. The Canadian Motorcycle Association is the insurer of this special event, as with most motorcycle events across the province. The principal family member pays $26.00 and any additional family members pay $15.00 each as an enthusiast rider, this covers you at all the CMA sanctioned events thru out this summer and it is a one time fee per year.
For the family ride we will be riding a 15 to 18 km loop in the Williams tract across from where the Jim Kelly starts, riding fire roads and some beautiful single tract over to the fresh water springs. There will be some soft sand riding (tip: run your tires soft), a few hill sections nothing to hard with help, some bridge crossings and a corduroy log river crossing. The Williams tract is a beautiful forest to experience and will entertain the family for the day.
Any SORRA members that are available for this Saturday the 2nd, as a working day, we are meeting with HORRA members at 10am where the Jim Kelly event starts from. I suggest bringing a gps if you have one, can of bug spray, shovel, rubber boots and packing a lunch. We need a couple of crews to correct the loose stones on the rail crossing and remove sand from the tunnel which still has water in it. The 100k ride needs 2b arrowed along with the junior ride, so anyone available it would be appreciated.
Hope to see everyone there,
Always ride with care
Wayne Ricketts
