what does everybody use for boots?
I'm looking for something I can walk in but still offers decent protection for Dual Sport rides. Oh Yeah and doesn't cost 300 dollars. Is it possible? does it exist? Is it available in Canada?

Cheers,

Ajn

I use hikers normally, but got a pair of Oneal Element MX Boots (@ $159 at Royal Distributing)

I tried them out for the first time today and they're very comfortable for riding and also pretty good for walking.
Don't ask me how I know they're good for %$#@%$@ walking, OK

I use MSR motocross boots when riding on any of my machines, except the road bikes because the boots are a major hindrance while pretzeled into the saddle. (i usually wear my hiking boots)

the motocross boots are great on the dirt bikes and 4 wheelers, and you can sort of walk in them but i wouldn't actually use them as walking boots.
(ok for Crying or Very sad pushing)

for a good dual crossover I suggest a good pair of hiking boots (I use "prospector" boots made in quebec for around 200 bucks). sturdy enough to take some hits but also good for walking. I did however find them way to low around the ankles and shins when in the bush.

I would have to agree with Pedro in the fact that you need shin protection big time. One unforeseen stump and you will appreciate a boot than is not so great for walking in.

Also, shin pads to protect the area above your MX boot are a good idea.
I've still got a big egg near the top of my shin from a mudhole drop last Oct that even the MX boots wouldn't have saved me from.

Then again, I've got @ a yard of shin LOL

One thing, though. I noticed that the new MX shinguards I got for Christmas along with the boots look suspiciously like a set of my kids 11" or 12" hockey pads.

I agree MX Boots are a must have item. I would not ride without them. Over the years my boots have taken some good hits from rocks or debris coming off the front tire.

I also recommend wearing a plastic bag inside each boot. (white kitchen garbage bag) This is a trick a rider shared with me. If any water does make it into your boot your socks will stay dry. Worst thing is to ride with wet feet.

Boots are not ideal for a long walk but I don't plan on walking any time soon.

My 2 cents. Laughing

Me, I wear a full-body condom when riding. I practice safe MX Idea

I spray my boots with silicon spray all the time. It soaks in and keeps water out. The bags would make my feet sweat, meaning dry boots-wet feet.

I do have some bags along though , just in case.
